Honouring William Blake, visionary artist and poet, shaman and healer; and tracing the thread of Blake`s esoteric genius as inspiration in the 21st Century.
Jerusalem! The Real Life of William Blake Tobias Churton
The hymn ‘Jerusalem’ stirs our hearts with its evocation of a new holy city built in ‘England’s green and pleasant land’. But the spiritual essence of Blake has been buried for many years under inadequate biographies, college dissertations and arts commentaries, by-passing the luminescent keys to his symbolism and liberating spirit. After accessing a large body of never-before published records, Tobias Churton challenges conventional views of Blake to reveal the full complexity of the man, with unprecedented insights into his intellectual, spiritual and creative life, to reveal, at last, the real
William Blake in all his glory, so that anyone who sings ‘Jerusalem’ in future will see its beauty with renewed understanding.
Tobias Churton is Britain’s leading scholar of Western Esotericism, a
tradition that encompasses Blake’s deepest influences. Appointed Honorary Fellow and Faculty Lecturer in Western Esotericism at Exeter University in 2005, he holds a Master’s degree in Theology from Brasenose College, Oxford. His many books include: a biography of Elias Ashmole and Aleister Crowley: The Biography, (Watkins). His latest publication is “Jerusalem! The Real Life of William Blake” (Watkins).
